North Norfolk Wheelyboat, Poppy.

Poppy, the North Norfolk Wheelyboat, operates out of Blakeney Harbour. She’s a ferry that is specially designed for wheelchairs and is also available for passengers with a wide range of disabilities.

Poppy can carry up to 5 wheelchairs with a total passenger complement of eight.

Blakeney Harbour is beautifully positioned on the North Norfolk Coast. It forms part of two national nature reserves, offering some of the finest seal watching in the country together with internationally important bird colonies. Trips are tailor made to meet the needs of customers and the Poppy crew totally understand that there will be family or carers who will want to make the trip as well.

There are more than 200 Wheelyboat’s in service around the country, but Poppy is the first on the North Norfolk Coast. She is also the first with dual propulsion, both petrol and electric engines.

Bookings are made by phone so the team can fully understand the particular needs of passengers and skippers and crew are fully qualified. Their Timetable is governed by tides and they, of course, keep a close eye on the weather. Blakeney Harbour is a sheltered water so, when needed, they can adjust passage plans to meet weather conditions. Sometimes, if it’s particularly blowy, or cold, then they would cancel. The service is based from the Royal British Legion Branch, at the Harbour Room, in Blakeney High Street, where there is always a warm welcome and the opportunity to relax at the friendly bar and gardens. It also provides somewhere to park.
