Located in the centre of the popular North Norfolk seaside town of Sheringham, Sheringham Little Theatre is aptly named since it features the smallest stage in a professional theatre in the country. With only 180 seats this much loved Sheringham institution offers a refreshingly intimate experience in these times when most theatres, cinemas and auditoriums are adopting a ‘bigger is better’ approach. Formerly a library and then a Town Hall, the building saw its first arts and craft exhibition held in 1902, in aid of the fishing boat disaster fund. This opened the floodgates for all manner of concerts, receptions, lectures, dances, political meetings and fund raising events. Operating as a cinema throughout and after World War I, the stage was built up in the early 1960s and the theatre started to become the establishment it is today.
Lottery-funded modernisation in the mid-1990s, exterior makeovers in 2004 and 2005 and, most recently, refurbishment to The Hub coffee bar in 2007 have ensured that the Theatre remains a popular and essential treasure within the community of Sheringham and beyond.
Today, Sheringham Little Theatre hosts one of the last surviving summer repertory seasons, along with live music events, musical theatre, workshops and courses, comedy, films, art exhibitions and drama groups throughout the year.
Box Office open Mon-Sat 10am-6pm.

Summer Rep 2008:
Jul 30th-Aug 2nd: Bouncers. An updated version of John Godber’s hilarious parody of the nightclub scene. Directed by Bev Berridge, the play features four actors who portray more than 20 characters – from giggling girls and lads on the make, to hooray Henrys and pogo-ing punks.
Sept 3rd-6th: Dangerous Obsession. Nail-biting N J Crisp thriller directed by former Maddermarket Theatre artistic director Clare Goddard. When the “dangerously obsessed” John Barrett pays a visit to Sally and Mark Driscoll, he leaves behind a trail of shattered faith, broken trust and a marriage that will never heal.
Aug 20th-26th: Snakes and Ladders. Farcical sitcom by Rising Damp writer Eric Chappell, directed by Paston College expressive arts teacher Simon Thompson. The assumed identities, breakneck pace and hilarious mishaps of farce mix with the tension and mystery of a thriller in this play from the pen of the BAFTA award-winning writer of more than 200 TV comedy scripts and 20 stage plays.
Aug 5th-19th: Bedroom Farce. Classic Alan Ayckbourn concoction of fun, games and disaster. Arguably the great British playwright’s greatest work, the play features four couples, three bedrooms and one very busy night.
Aug 28th-Sept 2nd and Sept 8th-13th: Blithe Spirit. Improbable farce by the “Inventor of Englishness” Noel Coward. When successful novelist Charles and his second wife Ruth invite the eccentric medium Madame Arcati to conduct a séance, a wacky romp through this world and into the next ensues – complete with surprising twists and disastrous results.
