Samphire is a very special food shop indeed. Founded on four crucial principles that value the importance of local produce, good animal welfare, rare-breed meats (that thrive in non-intensive, natural farming environments) and supporting smaller producers, Samphire offers fresh, traceable food that is so delicious it even has Chefs like Gary Rhodes singing its praises.
Samphire is well known for its pork pies (around 500 pork pies were sold at the 2007 Norwich & Norfolk Food Festival - pretty much a whole pig!). The heavily requested sausage rolls (Samphire rare-breed sausage meat encased in ruff-puff pastry) are served hot on demand from the counter. The Samphire rare-breed sausages themselves (all reared outdoors in Norfolk) were said by Gary Rhodes to be the best he’d ever tasted.
For veggie types, Samphire stocks a host of tasty goodies, including the yummy sounding Norfolk Lavender Shortbread (among many other cakes and puddings), locally produced fresh bread, Booja Booja Chocolate, tons of fresh, seasonal veg, as well as Chillisgalore pickles and sauces by Kathy & Wilf (superb with cheese and/or pork pies, apparently).
Situated in a listed barn, complete with kitchen, on the Blickling Estate, Samphire originated through a love of good quality food and a desire to change the way food is reared and prepared. Having received substantial approval in the local and national press and awards including the RSPCA Good Business Award, Samphire is definitely worth a visit for anyone that cares about what they eat or simply enjoys extremely good food, fresh from Norfolk.
Open daily throughout the year 9.30am-5pm.
